Alexis Asta
Who's that cute, quiet girl hiding her face behind a book, doing such a poor job of pretending she isn't stealing little glances at you? Whomever she might be, one thing is abundantly clear, she's clearly a bit too meek to make the first move, so perhaps you should be the one to approach instead? Only the fates know what might happen, if you'd only just come up to her and say hello~
Just a sweet, shy, magical librarian looking to make some new friends, or maybe even something more~
A WIP FF XIV character! Pardon the long page of mess, still learning to use carrd! This will be separated into proper pages once I figure out how!

Despite her shyness, her work around books has left her with an impeccable habit of politeness, and she always seems eager to help or listen to others. She is often innocent to a fault, sometimes quite oblivious to even the clearest of signals being sent her way, to the point that to some she comes across as ditzy. Of course, if those signals get through, she probably already has an innocent crush on whomever has been signaling their interest, and she might just start to return those signals! The sweet witch is far more of a lover than a fighter, and that goes to her application of magic as well. Whilst not a pacifist, the witch knows nary a spell that might cause harm to another, instead choosing to focus her magicks on protecting others from harm, be it with magical barriers or healing their wounds.
Backstory
Alexis Asta is a sweet, innocent young woman seeking to find her place in the world. The Hyur hails from a long lineage of scholarly Sharlayan witches, and can claim a bloodline steeped in the art of white magicks. As a late-blooming mage, she is quite inexperienced in harnessing her innate ability to manipulate aether, and is devoted to practicing the art until she is as masterful as the witches that preceded her. Magicks aren't the only trade of the Asta's, whom have ran a bookstore in Sharlayan for generations, specializing in the procurement and sale of ancient writings, acting as a sort of private gleaner service for books The Forum would deign best left in the forbidden sections of the Noumenon. This service has put the Asta's at odds with the Bibliothec faction in particular, whilst making them useful compatriots for the Students of Baldesion.Daughter of Aestella Asta, Alexis grew up in her family bookstore, Asta's Athenaeum, alongside her older sister, Aestrea, sheltered from the hardships of the Garlean conquests and the Seventh Umbral Calamity. Unlike her sister, Alexis showed little affinity for magic, and so she spent most of her childhood reading as her older sister bloomed into a witch. A part of Alexis lamented that she was unable to harness aether like her mother and sister, and whilst she prayed to goddesses for access to their power, she became content with the fact that her specialty lie somewhere in the realm of the written word. The books of the Athenaeum left her with a hunger for knowledge, and helped her to develop a passion for learning about most any subject she could find, though her particular favorite quickly became history. She loved how her readings let her learn about the world outside of the city, and left her aching to get a chance to see all it had to offer for herself one day...As she grew older, she also began to work as a bookclerk in the bookstore, and eventually found herself watching over it alone her mother and sister traveled Hydaelyn in search of new works to sell back home. Whilst she pined to join them on their adventures, she found herself content with a quiet life in the sleepy bookstore, where she could spend her days reading and dealing with the occasional customer. She took advantage of the time to prepare herself to eventually enroll in the Studium to become a scholar, once her mother and sister returned from their adventures abroad.Yet fate had a different plan for Alexis, one she never could have anticipated. In the midst of her dreams, she found herself visited by the hazy apparition of Menphina herself, whom encouraged her "brave little spark" to "become the witch you were always destined to be." When she awoke, she found herself filled with a peculiar feeling and quickly deduced that she could suddenly feel the aether brimming through and around her. With her family away, she decided to keep this new revelation to herself, and with the help of a few books, quickly learned how to harness her newfound talent to make running the bookstore easier. Things like enchanting a self-sweeping broom, or making a book shelve itself in the right spot became second-nature to her, and left her with the time she needed to properly delve into the realm of white magic. Alexis spent the next few months after her enlightening discovery honing in her rudimentary skills, quickly becoming quite skilled for a self-taught mage. All she could do was bide her time until her mother and sister came home, so that she could reveal to them that she had been a witch all along. Finally, the moment arrived, and the big reveal was received with naught but the warmest of acceptance from Aestella and Aestrea. They wasted no time in helping Alexis get properly up to speed with her magicks, and within a couple of years, she had all but caught up to her sister, though both were still far from the sage wisdom of their mother. Yet, the more Alexis found herself learning about her ability to manipulate either, the more she found herself yearning to find a more practical application for her studies, beyond that with which she had initially become a witch. That pining for the same sort of adventures that she had read about grew all the more fiery as she became more confident in her magical skills, until it finally reached a bursting point. She just had to convince her mother to let her explore the world, and so she began rehearsing the conversation with her mother in her head over and over, ready to explain her reasoning until she was blue in the face.Of course, Aestella hardly needed convincing, and whilst she expressed her worries up front, was more than happy to let Alexis explore the world on her own, provided that she write home every once in awhile. With her mother's blessing, and a bit of planning (and of course, bit of her mother's gil, so she could get past the docks), and Alexis set off on her own for Eorzea, striking out on the winds adventure in search of something new...
Bolívar "Bo" Jangle
Bolívar Jangle, normally shortened to "Bo Jangle" or just "Bo", is Alexis' beloved otter companion, whom can often be found trailing the witch on her travels. The auspicious critter seems to tingle with aether, leading many to believe the critter is the witch's familiar, but such a tale is far from the truth. On a trip to Hingashi, Alexis found one of the more peculiar sights of her journey, a fishmonger in an argument with a mute otter, berating the poor creature for trying to steal a fish. Finding the creature most adorable, she quelled the one-sided squabble by buying a few fish from the merchant to give to the otter. Afterwards, the otter took a keen interest in following Alexis about the city, prompting Alexis to purchase him more fish. She soon christened her new friend "Bolívar Jangle", quickly shortening the name to "Bo" for conciseness. The otter has followed her on her travels ever since, though sometimes he disappears on his own for awhile, eventually returning to Alexis with a pertinent hunger for fish. Those who observe Bo find him to be in an auspicious state of peace, as if he has achieved the perfect balance within, leaving him free of all thoughts and worries... Other than fish anyways.
RP Hooks
I prefer to work out ideas with my partner after we've acknowledged a mutual interest in roleplaying with one another. For me, brainstorming is a fun part of the process, and scenes turn out better if we're both tossing ideas around! I'm also open to just winging a scene on the fly after setting up a basic premise, it can be quite fun to simply see how two characters interact with one another! However, lest this spot be totally bereft of ideas to start with, here's a couple of little hooks I enjoy! Just keep in mind I'm open to all sorts of ideas and themes, from cutesy to dark, and I'm always happy to try and make things work!- Given Alexis' penchant for books, meeting the witch in a library or bookstore is quite the likely scenario!- Our characters cross paths on their travels, wherever it may be across Hydaelyn!- Your adventuring party is in need of a healer, and hires the shy mage for the job!I don't mind more mature/adult themes /c/ough /c/ough as well, but please note I prefer having everything based around some kind of story and/or character chemistry regardless of the theme!
OOC
Thank you for reading my carrd! I've been roleplaying for a few years now, and I always love meeting new folk to play out a scene with! I'm a bit shy about approaching sometimes, but I'm always happy to find someone interested in RP!Please note that I'll only roleplay with adults, and whilst I don't mind more mature/adult themes /c/ough /c/ough, I prefer having everything based around some kind of story and/or character chemistry!
